Munny's first Pheasant Hunt
I took my buddy Brian on his first pheasant hunt today. He had to slog through the hunters ed class at 29 years old, listening to 12 year old display vast and deep knowledge of the hunting arts so he could come along and chase birds with Murphy and me.
Today, I wish I could say was full of birds. But alas, the pheasants weren't that cooperative. It feels to me that this years hatch sucked royally and bird numbers suffered. That's ok to me, I just have to steelhead fish more
But.....I think Brian had a good time
I might have ran him into the ground a bit....

Images from the Methow
Fall was in it's full glory this weekend on the Methow. Everything clicked. The fish ate, ate and ate some more. PBR has officially been crowned as my steelhead beer of choice. The Million Dollar run continues to produce and catching fish on the first cast of a trip finally wasn't a kiss of death.
The highlight of the weekend. Watching my buddy Chris hook into a monster, and after the battle.....he shook like a leaf with buck fever. All I could do was smile

Wear it Dad.....Wear it
"JOSH....GET...OVER...HERE"
"HELP...MEEEEEEEE!"
After the 300th cast swinging the spey through a nice run on the Grande Ronde....that phrase rose the hackles on my neck.
I wheel around to see what my dad was yelling about, and all I could do was laugh.
Dropping the anchor on his snap T too close to his body, he ended up with a less desired result in his cast. He now was dabbling in ear piercing.
I watched him gingerly exit the river and onto the bank. Rod in one hand, line in the other to help relieve the pressure on his ear. I again couldn't stop giggling like a 12 year old girl
Hey....I've hooked myself a few times. Its bound to happen to all of us. I am just glad I had my camera ready
We did manage some GR fish over the weekend, but the weather wasn't that cooperative. Back at it soon, and the fire to fish for steelfaces continues to burn white hot

I want a new drug
edit that....I found it
Strip strip, strip...set the running line to the left hand. Lift overhead, drop the anchor. Rip it around your body...let your hands draw above your head...just slightly above your head
Pause, only for a bit
Then let the dogs loose. Fire the line and watch your fly "plop" down in the running water
Mend, Mend.....and let the current draw your fly across the channel...
and then it happens
and FINALLY, you bring your first swung fly spey rod fish to hand...
Fucking glorious....
God I love this....
