Finger pointing gets us nowhere. It doesn’t matter how you fish, or what you fish with. It doesn’t matter how many years you’ve guided, or how many hours you’ve driven. Rivers don’t care where you’re from. They don't care about your family history. Fish do not give a tail flip about your social media following, your movie, or your business.
The river owes you nothing. Salmon and steelhead owe you nothing.
We owe them everything.
A small excerpt from a recent article the Drake Magazine was kind enough to publish for me. We're having a hell of a year on the Columbia/Snake River system with regard to Salmon and Steelhead numbers. The question kept rolling around in my head
What does the river, or fish owe us?

Sometimes when you're goose hunting, do you ever get the feeling like your in a more evolved game of hike and seek?
What it must be like for a flock to come in and the gates open and all hell breaks loose. A furry of wingbeats, cackles and shotgun blasts
A hell of a way to spend a morning...

Swing Season - Ghost Of Steelhead Future from Sage Fly Fish on Vimeo.
This is a beautiful video
And it should piss your right the hell off.
Think about it, we're repeating, in a similar fashion, the folly of the East Coast of the Canada and the United States.
The loss is happening right before our very eyes. Without the fish, the river can easily loose its meaning
What are you doing about it?

Take something from popular culture that your generation has a relationship with.
For instance, the picture above. Megatron, from the culturally significant show Transformers (heavy on the sarcasm there)
Then, hit the vice and throw some feathers and fluff together
Work on your alliteration. Combine names of culturally significant item of your youth with the flies original name.
Hence forth, this fly's name is....
Boom, done. Fly named.

It's simple. Get out and vote November 6th. Mail that envelope. Get to the poling station.
And while you're at it.....vote public lands.

There's nothing like a great hunting story....
Follow filmmaker Bryan Huskey on his 2018 Elk season....the start, the scouting, the long trips into the backcountry. All the ups and downs that encompassed his time afield.
A skilled storyteller, Huskey tells his season so well that you really feel like you're standing with him throughout the season. I dont personally bow hunt for elk, but dear god does this podcast series make me want to give it a go. The whole series is spellbinding.
Give it a listen, start your journey at Huskey's SKYLINES podbean website.
